Welcome

Welcome to my home page! Through this website, I hope to provide an overview of my experience and services to help you make an informed decision about choosing a Psychotherapist. I understand that this is an important decision and invite you to contact me personally should you have additional questions, or to schedule an appointment.

Philosophy

I create a warm, safe environment for my clients so they have the opportunity to express themselves without judgment. Therapeutic goals include empowering clients to take control of their lives to improve decision-making skills and overall quality of life. I believe in exploring past history (e.g. childhood issues), as it relates to current problems or blocks. Treatment goals are always created with client input, and tailored to the unique needs of each client.

Background

I began my career as a Teacher (back then I was Christy Pottash, or "Miss Pottash", as my students called me!), having received my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1993 from the Pennsylvania State University.

I left the teaching profession in 1998 to pursue a career in the Mental Health field. I completed my Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology in 2000 from Temple University, specializing in the area of Domestic Violence.

I was very active in Domestic Violence Medical Advocacy from 2000 to 2002, serving as Chairperson of both the Medical College of Pennsylvania (MCP) Hospital and the Philadelphia Hospital Domestic Violence Task Forces. The latter was a city-wide effort, comprising its members from hospitals and agencies across Philadelphia. In this capacity, I had the opportunity to train doctors, nurses, and social workers on Domestic Violence Screening techniques & procedures in a health care setting.

Since 2002, I have acquired experience working with both adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse issues & eating disorders.

I have a vast amount of experience treating a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD, as well as relationship difficulties and life transitions.
